Lourdes Fonseca-Nearon, Intern

Counseling Intern

My name is Lourdes Fonseca-Nearon, and I am a graduate student at Wayne State University completing my third and final year of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. I am excited to begin this last leg of my journey at Embrace Change Therapy as an intern and assist others as they navigate their journeys. Life can be challenging, there are many ups and downs. Part of my role as a counselor is to help clients move forward, learn, and grow through life’s difficult times and get to the other side. My approach is to meet my clients where they are, listen to their stories, and help them reach their goals.

A little about my background, I am a native Detroiter, having been born and raised in the city. My parents immigrated from Mexico. I witnessed their sacrifices and hard work as they navigated their journey in a new country while starting a family. Part of my family’s experience highlighted the needs of the immigrant community and their need to be heard and seen. As a result, I focused on multicultural counseling during my training and hope to assist others as they navigate this journey and other transitional experiences. I also work with clients who are experiencing emotional challenges, such as anxiety, depression, and relational conflicts.

I am married and the mother of two adult children. My husband and I love to travel and often visit our family in Mexico. I also love cooking and hiking. And on a sunny day, you will find me in my garden tending to my collection of plants and flowers.
