My name is Lourdes Fonseca-Nearon. I earned a bachelor’s degree from Oakland University and a Master’s degree from Wayne State University in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Life can be overwhelming, as there are many ups and downs. We are also pulled in many directions causing confusion and distress. Part of my role as a counselor is to help clients move forward, learn, and grow through life’s difficult times and get to the other side.
My approach is to meet my clients where they are, listen to their stories with compassion, and without judgment, and help them overcome their challenges and reach their goals. In my work, I draw on a variety of evidence-based approaches and theories, including Narrative, Humanistic, Person-Centered, and Liberation psychology. I also work with clients who are experiencing emotional distress, such as anxiety, depression, transitions, and relational conflicts. I also worked in a corporate setting for many years and understand the stress that comes with this type of professional setting.
A little about my background, I am a native Detroiter, having been born and raised in the city. My parents immigrated from Mexico. I witnessed their sacrifices and hard work as they navigated their journey in a new country while starting a
family. Part of my family’s experience highlighted the needs of the immigrant community and their need to be heard and seen. I am both bilingual and bicultural.
I am married and am the mother of two adult children. My husband and I love to travel and often visit our family in Mexico. I also enjoy cooking and hiking. On a sunny day, you will find me in the garden tending to my collection of plants and flowers.
The journey of immigration involves profound loss, change, and cultural adjustment that can deeply impact your mental health. I provide a supportive space to navigate the stress of acculturation, process grief for your home country, and build resilience as you create a new sense of belonging and identity.
The cumulative impact of racial trauma and microaggressions is real and deeply damaging. I offer an affirming space to process these experiences, heal from the emotional and psychological wounds of discrimination, and develop strategies to protect your well-being and cultivate empowerment.
For bilingual individuals, expressing deep emotions is often most authentic in your native language. I provide therapy in both English and Spanish, offering a comfortable and nuanced space to explore your inner world, process complex experiences, and foster healing without the barrier of translation.
Feeling overwhelmed by worry, panic, or a constant sense of dread? You don’t have to manage anxiety alone. I provide supportive strategies and practical tools to help you calm your nervous system, quiet racing thoughts, and reclaim a sense of peace and control in your daily life.
When depression makes everything feel heavy, hopeless, or exhausting, reaching out is a brave first step. Together, we will work to rediscover motivation, challenge negative thought patterns, and help you reconnect with the joy and meaning in your life.
Navigating a major life change—whether planned or unexpected—can be disorienting and stressful. I offer a supportive space to process your experience, redefine your identity, and build a practical and meaningful path forward through times of transition.
