Most people looking into counseling have had the thought “I should talk to someone,” or were encouraged to see a counselor because “talking about it can help.” But sometimes you can’t find the words, or the words are there but you can’t get them out. Maybe your thoughts and emotions are overwhelming and you don’t even know where to begin.
As a counselor my job is to help you find that starting point and then make the talking easier by listening and observing, asking questions, and offering new ways to express those things that don’t fit neatly into words. Using research supported, evidence based techniques from both Art Therapy and talk therapy I can provide the insight, tools and opportunity to approach mental health issues from a place of curiosity and self-compassion.
I have had a love of art and interest in counseling since I was very young, which lead me to pursue Art Therapy in college. I have my MA in Counseling and Art Therapy from Adler University in Chicago. I have worked with people of all ages on issues such as anxiety and depression, trauma, self harm, adjusting to significant change or challenges, and social or interpersonal struggles. I have particular experience working with children and with issues relating to ADHD or Autism, both professionally and personally.
When I’m not working I can be found spending too much time playing with musical chairs with my hobbies and not enough time cleaning my house. I like reading, finding interesting rocks, and every craft I’ve ever tried. I live with my husband and two sons and our cats Marshmallow and Autotune.
