Meet our newest team member, Lourdes. Lourdes is an intern working on her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Wayne State University. She is currently accepting new clients at a low cash rate. She has put together a brief introduction and background information. Come learn more about her!

“I am a 2nd generation Mexican American woman whose parents immigrated to the U.S. with much hope and very few possessions. I have seen, and sometimes experienced racism and discrimination that comes with being a newly arrived person of color. These experiences and lessons have helped to prepare me for my role as a helper. My perspective is guided by a sense of social justice for those who are disadvantaged or marginalized. Being diminished, othered, ignored, or targeted affects the human spirit. My hope is to help those affected by injustices by hearing, and seeing them, and helping them move beyond these experiences.

I work with individuals of all ages and backgrounds. I have experience working with those facing various life challenges, including depression, grief, anxiety, adjustment disorders, and life transitions. I offer a therapeutic presence where clients can freely express themselves without judgment. Part of therapy also includes identifying patterns, finding blind spots, learning new coping tools, and growing along the way. Although my modalities include talk therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and other methods, I search for the best approach in order to meet my client’s needs and goals.”
